Rush Card Visa

Before we get into how to get a pre paid debit card we need to explain what one is. Unlike most checking account cards that you get when you open a checking account that allows you to draw from your checking account and has the Visa or MasterCard emblem on it pre paid debit cards are little bit different in theory in the sense that you need to make a deposit first into a secured account in the bank and they hold that money and security against any future charges.

These type of debit cards are used by people who have suffered a financial setback and need a second chance option to get back into the game. We all know it is almost possible to make any purchases online or even retail outlets without a credit card. This is also an excellent way to begin to reestablish your credit and to let the banks and financial institutions know that you are serious about reestablishing your credit. So how do we go about getting our pre paid card?

There are several options and your first option would be to check locally with any banks in your area to see if they offer the option of a pre paid debit card, you will probably find that over 75% of the banks contacted do not offer this to their customers. Your second option is to find a national bank that offers them over the Internet. This is probably your best long-term option and if you need to reestablish credit you need to get started on that road today!

Many of the credit card companies recognise the need to have some type of credit card for teenagers in this day and age. There are several cases in which cash or cheques are no longer accepted, especially with online purchases making it very difficult for a teenager to get anything, such as gifts. These prepaid credit cards for teenagers do have to have the parent's permission in order to obtain them, but the fact that they exist can help many parents and teenagers get along financially.

With prepaid credit cards for teenagers there are couple of things that should be examined before you obtain just any of the cards. Many of the online companies offering prepaid credit cards have extensive fees in the start up costs, transaction fees, monthly fee, and the reload fee. To help you find a prepaid credit card for your teenager we have looked at some of the cards available to determine the best cards out there. Here are few of the cards we have found.

The Rush Card Prepaid Visa has a start up cost of $19.95, with a transaction fee of a dollar, but a free reload fee. The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard allows a start up fee of $9.95, service charge of $4.95, and a reload fee of $4.95 at any Western Union location. The wired plastic prepaid visa card has a start up fee of $9.95, service charge of $3.95, and a reload fee of $6.95.

There are more than just these few prepaid credit cards for teenagers available, but these were the ones that had the best start up and other fees. It is possible to get prepaid credit cards from Capital One and other well known banks, however they will also have some high fees associated with the cards.

The prepaid credit cards for teenagers have several things in common with ATM cards. The first is that you are the one keeping the control and how much balance is on the card. In order to use the card you have to have some type of deposit whether it is just a few dollars or more than hundred. It will of course depend on your teenager as too how much you would like them to have. Once the balance has been spent the teenager cannot use the card until it has been reloaded. It is better than a regular credit card in that you are able to say how much they will use at any given time. You don't have to allow for more than that few dollars every month. This saves you from high credit card balances that can't be paid off. There are direct deposit options with the prepaid cards if you would like their earnings to go on the card.

It is good to remember the fees and of course let your teenager know about the fees. Chances are if they are using their own money to fund the card they are not going to want the transaction fees that come with it.

In life we all come across scenarios where it is best to pay for something with a credit card. Take purchases online for instance; the credit card has the added benefit that it is widely accepted by many online merchants and payment is instant from the buyer to the seller. By being able to pay with a credit card you will be able to receive the item in the fastest possible time available.

If you had to send a check to an online merchant it might mean waiting for the check while it is in transit, than waiting for the check to be deposited, and than after it is deposited you will have to wait for the check to clear. All this may take a few days up to a full week to complete before the merchant even packs and ships your products. The worst case scenario may even mean the merchant doesn't accept any other form of payment except for credit cards, so count those cash, check, and money order payment methods out.

Credit cards also offer many forms of protection for the consumer. Many reputable brands of credit card such as those which carry the Visa, MasterCard, or Discover logo have more features such as satisfaction guarantees and protection from fraud sales. Don't expect the same features when you're paying with checks.

Credit cards come in two forms, secured and unsecured. An unsecured credit card is a card which is backed by nothing except for the promise from the cardholder that they will pay their debt off when it becomes due. A secured credit card also known as a prepaid credit card is a card which is backed by funds that are pre-deposited or prepaid into the account. These cards are great options for those who have a hard time controlling their spending or are opening a card for a child who hasn't developed a sense of responsibility yet to handle a large credit line.

Secured credit cards are also great options for those who have bad credit and want to rebuild their credit scores in order to obtain unsecured credit cards.

If you have really bad credit scores, than the only option for you may be in the form of a secured credit card. By securing your spending limit with funds first this essentially relieves some of the risk that the card company will take by issuing your the card while still offering you the services and benefits of having credit. Thus it is much easier for someone to apply and be approved for a secured credit card since it is based more on what you're able to deposit than how you are with timely payment schedules or if your job is stable.

I know many people are concerned that by depositing their money into a secured credit card that the money no longer becomes theirs. They see this comparison with store cards such as the kind you get at Starbucks where you buy a pre-charged gift card or a Visa Debit Gift Card. But unlike those cards secured credit cards are essentially the same as money because what you put in there stays there until you use it. The funds can even be used at an ATM to withdraw money that you need which is something you can't do with the Starbucks card. The Starbucks card usually won't cash you out unless you have an absolute emergency reason to get your money back out.

Secured credit cards have also become much more convenient for those who need them as well. Many secured cards will even allow you to have your employer direct deposit funds directly into your credit card account so that you will have the money you need available immediately.

There are many credit cards currently on the market and if many of them have already declined you than it may be time to look into applying for a secured credit card as your credit might not be strong enough to get approved for an unsecured credit card.
